Yes, the Cubs season didn't go well. Yes, we are in the middle of a lockout. But, that means it's time to have a little fun and review my favorite Cubs moments from 2021.
Number One for me is the Cubs' combined no-hitter for multiple reasons.
- This is the one redeeming Zach Davies moment. (I just love the fact that a bad pitcher like Davies would no-hit one of baseball's best teams)
- The fact that the trio of Tepera, Chafin, and Kimbrel would help close the door. (All of them are relief pitchers the Cubs helped succeed)
- The Cubs literally no-hit the Dodgers. I mean, just take that in for a minute.
So take a little bit of time to watch this short video of the Cubs' combined no-hitter.
Number Two for me is Wisdom breaking Bryant's rookie homerun record with a grand total of 28 homeruns. Sure, Wisdom has his downsides, but c'mon. The guy has some crazy power.
Number Three is Anthony Rizzo striking out fellow first baseman Freddie Freeman. It's a funny and wholesome moment, and also one that came as a bit of a surprise. Fun moment when Cubs legend Rizzo was still on the team.
Number Four is seeing Andrew Romine hitting a game-tying 3-run homer off of former Cubs close Craig Kimbrel.
- First off, best to Romine as he lately announced his retirement. A good way to end your career is with the Cubs.
- What's funny about about that moment is that Romine literally hardly ever hits homeruns. He has hit 11 in his whole career, so to see him hit one off of dominant Cubs closer (now White Sox) was a pretty nice moment.
Number Five is not my favorite moment, but it is definitely a touching and an important moment. The Cubs trading away their core group (Bryant, Rizzo and Baez) at the deadline. This video is how the Cubs welcomed Bryant back to Wrigley Field, which is certainly a touching moment that is one of my favorites.
Number Six is something that got me really excited. It was Justin Steele's last start of the year, and he pitched 7 shut-out innings against the Pirates. Maybe you don't consider it a highlight moment, but I do. It gave me a glimpse into his full potential, and I am excited for his future.
Number Seven, which maybe should be higher on the list, is Baez's incredible baserunning vs the Pirates (or maybe just bad defense). Anyway, it's definitely a highlight moment.
While there might be other moments that aren't included that are your favorite, these are at least mine, and if you have any other favorite Cubs moments from 2021, put it in the comments below and I might do a part two.
