The Cubs Get Wade Miley Off Waivers and Roster Moves

I was prepared for the unexpected this offseason in regards to the Cubs and MLB in general, but the Cubs' first official move really shocked me, though I see the benefit. Cubs Get Wade Miley Lets start with a little background. Apparently the Reds were shopping Miley, trying to find trade options for him, and reportedly talked to all 30 teams regarding him. None showed interest, however, and Miley, who was entering his last year before becoming a free agent, was placed on waivers, open to any team that wanted to sign him (kind of like a free agent, though it's a bit different). The Reds have been trimming their payroll by trading Barnhart and now getting rid of Miley, and it works out for the Cubs to be on the receiving end of it. The Cubs apparently played it close in "not being interested" in trading for Miley, but as soon as he went up on waivers, they snatched him. Was this a good move or not? Like I've mentioned before, GM Hawkins has had experience with de

Cubs Roster Moves, The Hot Stove Begins, Cubs Front Office Moves and Other Cubs News

The Offseason Has Begun. And with it floods of moves; DFAing, signing FAs, trades, and the list goes on. The same is true for the Cubs, who had to bring their roster down to 40, since 5 players on the 60 day IL had to be reinstated, bringing the current roster to 43. So, the Cubs made some moves. Trayce Thompson was outrighted Nick Martini was outrighted Kohl Stewart was outrighted Jonathan Holder was outrighted "Outrighted" means that they will be sent to Iowa and become minor league free agents. Other teams can sign them to minor league deals, or the Cubs could resign them, which I doubt would happen. That brings the Cubs' roster down to 39, meaning they can sign a FA, or get a player off waivers (what happened to Schwindel). Of course, they'll be trimming the roster down more, making room for prospects that need to be protected from the Rule 5 draft, and signing other FA. The players that were outrighted didn't really bring much value to the Cubs, save for Th

How Will Top Prospects Affect the 2022 Cubs?

Alright, I know I'm a day late with this article, but other things got in the way, so today it is. The Braves won their World Series (I'm really happy about it), and now the offseason begins. There will be a few days where free agents cannot sign with any other teams but their own team, then the real "hot stove" begins.  I'm excited for the Cubs' offseason, since it is obvious they will be active in free agents and trades. Expect a lot of news in the next few weeks, although there will probably not be any major signings, since the CBA negotiations are not done yet. Now, on to the topic for today: how will the Cubs' top 3 prospects (all in Triple A, that is) affect the 2022 Cubs? Bryant, Baez, Schwarber and others came from the Cubs' farm system, so these prospects are certainly important in their affect on the team. The 3 prospects we will discuss are Brennen Davis, Miguel Amaya, and Brailyn Marquez. Brennen Davis 2021 was an extremely exciting and

How Will The Cubs Trade Over The Offseason?

Astros beat the Braves last night, drawing the series to a Braves' 3-2 lead and leaving them two chances to win the World Series, while the Astros have to win the game on Tuesday to draw a game 7. Braves in six games is my hope, and an even more ironic thing is that a man (Trevor Plouffe) predicted before the 2021 season started that the Braves would beat the Astros in 6 games in the World Series.  I've discussed a lot of free agents the Cubs should target, and we've talked a lot about the free agent market, but another thing I haven't really discussed is the trade market. Trades are a big part of offseason moves, and the Cubs have had their fair share of them (the Yu Darvish trade being the biggest recently). Who Are The Cubs Willing To Trade? Now, we are only looking at scenarios, possible trade pieces the Cubs might use, not actual trades we are predicting. Willson Contreras . A lot of rumors about the Cubs trading Contreras, but like I mentioned in Saturday's
