A Little Something To Get You Excited About Cubs' Prospect Caleb Kilian

Kilian was acquired in the Kris Bryant trade with the Giants and boy did it pay off (from what we can see.) Kilian played for Double A with the Giants and then with the Cubs for the rest of the season. He also played in the AFL (Arizona Fall League) and put up some amazing starts.

Between both Double A organizations, he posted a final 2.75 ERA in 78.2 IP. Despite inflated numbers during the AFL (5.14 ERA), due mainly to a couple starts that he was working on some pitches, he still impressed many, especially with his final start in the AFL Championship Game where he pitched 6 innings and allowed no runs. Check out his final start here:

I am super excited about Kilian's future with the Cubs, and after watching several videos of his pitching I think the dude will be ready for MLB before long.

I found this video of Kilian's 2021 Highlights, and it is a good watch, especially seeing that rising fastball (touching at 98 MPH) and the changeup which has batters swinging at the ground.

Fangraphs thinks very highly of Kilian, as do I, putting him at No. 7 on the Cubs top prospects list, and also writing an article on his development that you can read here: Cubs Prospect Caleb Kilian Has Begun to Command Our Attention | FanGraphs Baseball

They also talk in detail about his other pitches he has developed and is working on developing, including a cutter, sinker, and a couple others that they discuss.

On his future with the Cubs, I say that he could easily make his MLB debut in 2022 but will likely start the year with Triple A and work on developing a couple other things first. Even if does not go higher than Triple A in 2022, it won't take him too long to make his way to the big leagues. If he debuts in 2022, then expect him to get a bullpen role first, but that doesn't mean that a rotation role with the Cubs won't be happening in the years ahead.

That's all I have on him today, but I hope you're as excited as I am about Kilian's future!

Reliving the Cubs' 2016 Postseason Highlights

As we enter the final stretch for baseball in 2021- a Braves/Astros World Series, it's a good time to look back at memorable Cubs' history in 2016, when the Cubs broke a 108 year WS win drought to beat the Indians in the World Series. The Cubs cruised to a 103-58 standing at the end of the season, getting the NL Central pennant and meaning they'd face the winner of the Wild Card, who ended up being the Giants. Game One of the NLDS Jon Lester threw 8 shut-out innings, Chapman closed the 9th with a shut-out against the Giants and Javier Baez solo-homered in the 8th to give the Cubs a 1-0 win against the Giants and get the 1-0 series lead. Game Two of the NLDS Kyle Hendricks started the game, only allowing 2 runs, and he drove in 2 runs himself in the 2nd with a single, but he left the game in the 3rd due to a line-drive injury. Reliever Travis Wood replaced Hendricks, and hit a home run, yes a home run in the 4th to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead. That was the first homer to be hi

Saturday Cubs News: Front Office Reshuffling, Shortstop Free Agent Market

Well, well, well. The Astros have shown themselves as dominant as ever, punching their ticket to the World Series in a win against the Red Sox. Braves and Dodgers will have Game 6 tonight, and Braves fans will hope that this year is not a repeat of 2020, when the Braves were up in the series 3-0 and the Dodgers game back to win 4 games in a row. I'm hoping so too... Now on to some Cubs news: The Cubs' Senor Vice President of Player Personnel, Jason McLeod is departing the Cubs' organization. Here is the exact tweet: That is indeed big news, as he was in the Cubs' organization for 10 years, starting in 2011 with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. This shows the direction the Cubs are going in. They do not intend on rebuilding as they did in 2011, but a quick rebuild, focused on a couple main things: Free agents and trades that are lower-cost (although the Cubs will likely spend big on one or two players), have good zone control, and are consistent hitters.
