I'm honestly surprised at the amount of news and otherwise interesting tidbits that have come up during the lockout. But hey, I'll take it over nothing!
We knew right off the bat (no pun intended) that Correa was going to expensive. And we were getting even more hints when the Tigers chose Baez over Correa, likely having a lot to do with the price tag. But it was confirmed in a tweet by Jon Heyman. Correa first hired Scott Boras as his agent, an agent noted for getting pricey deals for his clients.
Carlos Correa’s position before the lockout (or agent switch) was that he wanted $330M to $350M. But $330M was the clear minimum ask. Will still be interesting to see if he can beat Corey Seager’s $325M deal.

The Cubs CAN afford it, because they are pretty flexible with payroll even after signing Marcus Stroman, but the question is IF they want to put that much money towards Correa, even with him being an extremely valuable and MVP-caliber player. At this point, I'm not too sure the Cubs will sign him, even with them being a "front-runner" for him.
A "somewhat" good piece of news regarding the lockout (ugh) surfaced lately, and the good news is that the MLBPA will be giving a counter-offer.
Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association plan to meet Monday, when the union is expected to present a counteroffer to the league’s proposal last week, sources tell ESPN.

This would be the second meeting between the sides since MLB locked out players on Dec. 2.
I love prospect news and farm system updates, because prospects are the future for the Cubs. Tim Huwe made a pretty interesting discovery, and it's pretty interesting to me.
Of the 9 teams Fangraphs has released prospect values on, here are the top 5 values.
— Tim Huwe (@tim815) January 20, 2022
AZ $275.5
Cubs $233.5 M
Tigers $231 M
Yankees $186 M
Blue Jays $155.5 M
The CUBS in second with the top prospect values? Over the Tigers? And I completely agree. The Cubs' have more than just depth, they have valuable prospects. I went over a lot about the Cubs' farm system in a previous article, and I love the value and depth the Cubs' system provides.
Cristian Hernandez, one of the Cubs' top prospects, has been taking some batting practice. It's pretty awesome to see that swing too.
The swing of an MVP. https://t.co/6v6lLr1b2p

Owen Cassie is also getting some batting practice:
Hopefully soon I'll have up some more in-depth articles on a couple topics, but this is all "the latest" news, and I thought I'd keep y'all updated!#Cubs prospect Owen Caissie getting some work in with @jp3_baseball 💪🏼
