Cubs Trade Rumors: Correa, Stroman, and Contreras

Beautiful day for baseball today, latest news shows the Red Sox have hit 2 grand slams in 2 innings, one by Martinez, one by Devers. Pretty exciting playoffs- personally I would like to see a change of scenery from Astros or Dodgers. Red Sox/ Braves would be a nice change of pace.

Anyway, back to the Cubs, who do not get to enjoy the excitement of the playoffs, but in 2022...you never know!

Yes, I know the offseason has not officially started (not until the WS ends), but it isn't too soon to start discussing the Cubs' offseason- including possible signings and trades.

Carlos Correa

"It's something that definitely crossed my mind during that pre-draft workout, and maybe in the offseason it will cross my mind again"- Correa on dreaming of playing with the Cubs.

Ok, perhaps it would be daydreaming to see Correa signing a multi-year, $300M deal with the Cubs. Price will be high of course, Correa said he didn't think the Astros would meet his asking price, so...the Cubs spending that much? Yes they have money to spend, but I would rather see it spent on good pitching. You can't win games without good pitching.

But if Correa somehow did end up signing with the Cubs, that would mean Hoerner would either get a bench role, or play outfield, sometimes filling in at shortstop or second if Correa or Madrigal  needed an off day.

I personally don't think it is going to happen, but nice to know Correa wanted to play with the Cubs! Who wouldn't want to anyway?

Marcus Stroman

"The Cubs are always going to be a huge destination target. Just because of the history of the franchise, how amazing the franchise is. And the city's one of my favorite cities. So I don't think the Cubs will ever have trouble getting guys or having guys that want to go there. The organization's been so good for so long, and it has that history there. I think everybody wants to play at Wrigley in front of that crowd"-Stroman on the Cubs.

Yeah! Exactly. And Stroman said in a roundabout way that he wouldn't mind playing for the Cubs. This is someone I think the Cubs really SHOULD get. He was great for the Mets, and has the power and strikeouts the Cubs' rotation needs.

I think the Cubs will have talks anf offers with Stroman. Lets just hope it's not TOO expensive (after all, it's not Robbie Ray we're talking about), and that Stroman wants to actually play for the Cubs, not just talk about it.

Willson Contreras

Will Contreras be traded or remain on the Cubs and possibly get an extension? Although no official sources have rumored any possible target or landing place if the trade did happen, I have read a couple potential spots for Contreras.

  1. The Miami Marlins. This seems entirely plausible, if the Cubs were going to trade Contreras, as the Marlins are building up a good team, already stacked with good pitchers. A catcher like Contreras would be a good fit for them, having good defensive and offensive ability.
  2. The Seattle Mariners. The Mariners were baseball's most surprising team in 2021, and having no catchers that really cemented themselves in the teams' plans, Contreras would be an ideal target. No doubt the Mariners intend on competing again in 2022, and adding a good offensive catcher would be a good move.
  3. The Colorado Rockies. Out of the three, this one would be the least likely. Yes, the Rockies need a consistent catcher; though Elias Diaz was pretty good this year, he'd probably be better as a back-up. If the Rockies plan on competing next year (in a division with the hot Dodgers and Giants and the over-hyped Padres), Contreras would be a nice addition.
Although I would most like to see Contreras sign an extension with the Cubs, the Marlins or Mariners would be my first picks if the Cubs WERE going to trade him.

Excited to see what ends up happening!

Stay tuned, comment any thoughts or questions, and enjoy the ride!

I had the special opportunity of interviewing Cubs' prospects, James Triantos. Enjoy watching it!

Reliving the Cubs' 2016 Postseason Highlights

As we enter the final stretch for baseball in 2021- a Braves/Astros World Series, it's a good time to look back at memorable Cubs' history in 2016, when the Cubs broke a 108 year WS win drought to beat the Indians in the World Series. The Cubs cruised to a 103-58 standing at the end of the season, getting the NL Central pennant and meaning they'd face the winner of the Wild Card, who ended up being the Giants. Game One of the NLDS Jon Lester threw 8 shut-out innings, Chapman closed the 9th with a shut-out against the Giants and Javier Baez solo-homered in the 8th to give the Cubs a 1-0 win against the Giants and get the 1-0 series lead. Game Two of the NLDS Kyle Hendricks started the game, only allowing 2 runs, and he drove in 2 runs himself in the 2nd with a single, but he left the game in the 3rd due to a line-drive injury. Reliever Travis Wood replaced Hendricks, and hit a home run, yes a home run in the 4th to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead. That was the first homer to be hi

Saturday Cubs News: Front Office Reshuffling, Shortstop Free Agent Market

Well, well, well. The Astros have shown themselves as dominant as ever, punching their ticket to the World Series in a win against the Red Sox. Braves and Dodgers will have Game 6 tonight, and Braves fans will hope that this year is not a repeat of 2020, when the Braves were up in the series 3-0 and the Dodgers game back to win 4 games in a row. I'm hoping so too... Now on to some Cubs news: The Cubs' Senor Vice President of Player Personnel, Jason McLeod is departing the Cubs' organization. Here is the exact tweet: That is indeed big news, as he was in the Cubs' organization for 10 years, starting in 2011 with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. This shows the direction the Cubs are going in. They do not intend on rebuilding as they did in 2011, but a quick rebuild, focused on a couple main things: Free agents and trades that are lower-cost (although the Cubs will likely spend big on one or two players), have good zone control, and are consistent hitters. Building up current
